A Priority Points Structure is used to determine room assignments selection order for ODU students submitting an application in the 2009 - 2010 application process. It has the advantage of allowing students to not only select their own room, based on a priority point system, but their own roommate as well.
About the Priority Points Assignment System
The Priority Points Assignment System determines the points assigned to each student based on the belief that students should be given special consideration in the housing assignment process based upon university values. This is exhibited by a student's cumulative grade point average, campus involvement, and community behaviors. The process provides the most equitable method for determining which students may live on campus. A total score is used to determine a student's priority time for room selection.
How the Total Point Score is Determined
Students receive their appointment to select a room based upon the total of the areas listed below. The higher the total score, the earlier the selection time.
Your Class Standing
First Year students have a greater need for the structure and support provided in on campus communities and receive more consideration than sophomores; sophomores more than juniors; and juniors more than seniors and graduate students.
Freshmen 100 points
Sophomore 75 points
Junior 50 points
Senior 25 points
Graduate Student 0 points
Your Cumulative Grade Point Average
Points are awarded based on the student's current cumulative GPA up to 400 points.
Example: 3.00 GPA = 300 points
Campus Involvement
Behaviors that enhance the ODU campus community are rewarded to provide a greater likelihood that involved students live in the residential communities. Students who are active members of a registered club or organization, serve in campus leadership position, or a member of an athletic team receive bonus points providing them with enhanced opportunities to remain on campus.
Involvement Bonus 50 points
Commuting Distance
Students who live outside of the defined commuting area from campus are given additional consideration and receive a 25 point bonus. Be sure your permanent address is accurate as the information to determine commuting distance is gathered from that database. No changes in scores will be made if students have not updated their address information via the Registrar's Office by March 9, 2009.
